Campaign Manager - Campaigns

Audience Element

Audience Elements are used to define an audience. An Audience Element is added by default as the first element in any Campaign.

When the Campaign start date/time is reached, the audience is calculated immediately and passes on to the next connected element in the Campaign flow.

You can create and edit Audience Segments in the following ways:

  • Use Segment Builder to create segment documents that can be used in multiple campaigns.
  • From within a Campaign - the segment exists in that campaign only, unless copied to the Segment Library.

Creating audiences

  1. Either open an existing campaign in Campaign View, or create a new campaign by clicking the New Campaign button in Campaign View.
  2. Click the Audience element.
  3. In the Outputs field on the left, select the database table on which your audience will be based. For email campaigns it is usually the Customer table that contains the email address column, but it could be any database table. To view the full datasource path, hover over the table you have selected.
  4. In the Outputs field on the right, select the audience type. The default is Fixed Audience. It is very important that you select the correct option for your campaign requirements:
Fixed Audience The audience defined at the start of the campaign. It remains fixed and no new recipients will enter the campaign during its lifetime.
    Update Audience on Resume

Recalculates the audience when a campaign is restarted. Could be manual restart or part of an iLoader daily restart.

NOTE: When running campaigns in Test Mode this feature will not refresh the audience. Te create a new Audience the campaign should be un-executed and re-tested.

    Dynamic Audience

The audience is recalculated every time a campaign element is processed (for example, every 10 minutes) while the campaign is active. The audience can change depending on triggers and events that occur during the campaign’s lifetime.

NOTE: When running campaigns in Test Mode this feature will not refresh the audience. Te create a new Audience the campaign should be un-executed and re-tested.

  5. Sampling is available for Fixed Audience only by selecting the Sampling button. From the slide-in, one or more of the sample types can be added and will be processed in the order viewed in the slide in. Note that only one of each type can be added.
    • Random - Use the simple Count or Percent options to chose the sampling type, and defined a count or percentage value. It should be noted that this is a seeded random for the lifetime of that data load and will therefore select the same recipients when repeatedly testing for a consistent data set for testing purposes.
    • N per X - Use this option to reduce the Audience by, for example, 1 per household, by simply selecting the Household table in the per setting. There is also optional Sort By options for more flexibility allowing for example, to take 1 per household Sort By Income Descending, giving the person in the house with the highest Income.
    • N Row - Select to take from the Top, Middle or Bottom of the Audience either in table order or again having re optional ability to add a sort to allow, for example, take Top 1000 records Sorted by Income to give the thousand Audience members with the highest Income.

    • Note:
      • Sampling is available for Fixed Audiences only due to the Audience processing concepts. Imagine on Day 1, a person in a house is selected based on Income. They enter the campaign, receive the first communication and are left pending their response. For a Fixed Audience this is good, but for one of the dynamic audience options, a re-evaluation of the Audience of a subsequent day might now want to select a different person from the house based on new Income values. This would then create 2 recipients from the house in the same campaign which is not what was expressed within the campaign brief or design.
      • If Campaign Key is changed after initial sampling configuration, the sampling should be carefully reviewed to ensure it is still valid and giving the correct sample.
      • The order of the samples can be changed by drag and drop of the samples types in the UI.

  6. Click the Add icon in either the Inclusions panel or the Exclusions panel, depending on whether you are configuring people you want to include or exclude in the segment.
Note: In Segment Library, you cannot rename or add new folders, or move documents like you can in Segment Builder. You can only navigate around the folders, and select segment documents.
    • If you want to build a segment from scratch, select Build segment from the Add drop-down list. The Campaign Designer screen opens. Click the expand icon below for detailed instructions on building a segment in Campaign Designer.
Note: Segments built within a campaign exist in that campaign only. If you want to save the segment to the Segment Library, click Save Copy. The saved copy of the segment will not be linked to the campaign in which it was built.
